Ovarian rejuvenation is a novel and innovative approach whereby ovaries are stimulated to increase the quality and quantity of the eggs and thus improve chances of pregnancy.
Rejuvenating the ovaries has the potential to avoid oocyte donation or the need for donor eggs and opt for self-oocytes during the IVF cycle .
At Corion we offer ovarian rejuvenation using Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma(PRP) therapy. Simply stated it is a rich concentrate of platelet and growth factors obtained from your own blood.
When introduced into the ovaries PRP stimulates cellular rejuvenation and attracts stem cells to the local area which in turn facilitates the production of eggs.
When is ovarian rejuvenation therapy with PRP recommended?
Ovarian rejuvenation using PRP is typically recommended for women who are experiencing the following:
- Low or diminished ovarian reserve. In this condition, women tend to have lower-than-normal levels of AMH(Anti-Mullerian Hormone) and a lower number of eggs (AFC-Antral Follicle Count).
- Poor response to IVF or Poor ovarian response. This means that a woman does not produce as many eggs as expected during an IVF cycle. Poor response to IVF can be a sign of low ovarian reserve or poor egg quality.
- Primary Ovarian insufficiency (POI) or very low AMH or early menopause. Young women diagnosed with very low AMH and poor ovarian reserve can conceive a child with their own eggs by undergoing PRP.
Candidates for PRP
- Low Ovarian Reserve (Low AMH)
- Poor Egg Quality
- Poor Egg Quantity
- Poor Response to IVF
How is Ovarian Rejuvenation with PRP performed?
In this method, blood collected from the patients themselves is processed and the plasma which is rich in platelets is injected into the ovaries directly either by laparoscopy or transvaginally under ultrasound guidance and under anaesthesia. The procedure takes approximately 20 minutes after which patient is moved to the recovery room.
It is a day care procedure and the patient is discharged in 3- hrs.
Are there any side effects of this treatment?
As intraovarian PRP is blood products of the patient’s own blood there are no known side effects.
What is the success rate of intraovarian PRP?
Results for PRP are usually seen in 3-4 weeks post the procedure. The effect of PRP lasts for 3 months.
It is a novel practice and is still considered experimental. However, a lot of ongoing studies are showing promising results in respect to improved oocyte quality and quantity.
